Lutcher running back Daniel Taylor, left, is stopped by Belle Chasse's Antoine Quadry (9) and Julius Brooks (25) during the first half of Friday's 8-4A game at Belle Chasse. Taylor had 12 carries for 100 yards and two touchdowns and caught a touchdown pass in Lutcher's 41-12 win. - (Susan Poag/The Times-Picayune)The Lutcher Bulldogs already led Belle Chasse 27-6, but it was time for the passing game to get on track. Lutcher quarterback Gavin Webster and junior Jarvis Landry made sure that happened.

Webster connected with Landry four times for 72 yards and a touchdown on an 85-yard drive at the end of the first half.

The Bulldogs (7-0, 2-0) took a 28-point halftime lead with the score and cruised to a 41-12 victory Friday night at Belle Chasse in a District 8-4A game.

Lutcher compiled 416 yards. Webster completed 14 of 20 passes for 221 yards and three touchdowns. Landry caught eight passes for 132 yards and a touchdown. Running back Daniel Taylor had 12 carries for 100 yards and two touchdowns. He also caught a touchdown.

The Bulldogs took control in the second quarter after scoring once in the first.

"When the game starts swinging like that, and we start moving around together, we're a very explosive football team, " said Webster, a senior. "We've just got to get everybody doing their job. And we can put up big numbers."

Webster and Landry had an added incentive to play well. LSU Coach Les Miles visited with the two at Lutcher before the game and watched the first half from the sideline.

"It's nice to sit down and talk to a guy like him, " Webster said.

At 5-foot-11, 210 pounds, some question whether Webster is the right size to be effective at quarterback in a major conference.

Said Lutcher Coach Tim Detillier: "How could you not be interested in Gavin Webster? He's a player. Sometimes we put too much stock in height and weight. He's a player, and he proves it week in and week out."

Belle Chasse (2-5, 0-2), last season's Class 4A state champion, has lost to three of the top five teams in Class 4A -- Salmen, Franklinton and Lutcher -- by a combined total of 133-40.

Belle Chasse's Asphenn Gaines completed 11 of 20 passes for 110 yards and a touchdown. Senior James Wright, also a Division I prospect, caught seven passes for 51 yards.

Lutcher, last season's Class 3A champion, now has victories against the defending Class 4A and 5A champions. The Bulldogs defeated Destrehan two weeks ago.

Lutcher and Belle Chasse played an even first quarter. Taylor broke free for a 48-yard score on Lutcher's third offensive play. At the end of the first quarter, Belle Chasse put together a nine-play, 79-yard scoring drive. Brett Green capped the drive with a 3-yard touchdown run.

Lutcher scored on each of its four drives in the second quarter.

Webster connected with Taylor for a 32-yard score with 11:14 remaining . Taylor then scored on a 39-yard run for his third touchdown of the half with 9:01 remaining.

Lutcher then took a 27-6 lead on a 22-yard pass from Webster to Trevor Englade.

"When you put 41 points up in these conditions, I'm pleased, " said Detillier, noting that windy weather and a damp field didn't make things easy.
